VET2VET

We realize that there are many veterans living right here in our Central Kentucky community.  While there are numerous resources available through the VA and other government entities, we know that the system is overcrowded and often, veterans wait weeks for an appointment.  We meet veterans daily who either need someone to talk to about their struggles, or who want to do something to help those younger veterans now coming home from battle with “Invisible Wounds of War”.  Those who mentor say it helps them in their own healing to reach out and help someone else who is

Our VET2VET program gives Veterans an opportunity to give and receive help within the veteran community. If you are a veteran struggling with PTSD or TBI and would like to talk to other veterans who have moved further along in their journey with overcoming the “Invisible Wounds of War”, please contact us.  We will help you find someone who can make your walk a little bit easier.

If you are a veteran who has experience with the “War Within” and would be interested in mentoring another veteran who is looking for support, we hope you will consider working with our local veteran community.

VET2VET FAMILIES

Family members struggle when their loved ones return from war with PTSD and TBI.  In fact, it is very likely that the family members will develop Secondary Traumatic Stress Syndrome (STSD).  Because the world of Invisible Wounds is so difficult to endure for the affected individual, the family often bears the brunt of the veteran’s problem.  Families want to help their loved one, but most do not understand the reality of surviving a war zone and can often make the problems worse due to a lack of understanding and a desperate need to want to make things better for the PTSD survivor.

VET2VET FAMILIES gives family members of our Veterans a chance to find support within our local community. Whether you are the spouse, the child, the parent, the sibling, or the friend of one who suffers with PTSD or TBI, you need a support system for yourself.  This organization was started for the very reason that we, as family members of one who has been diagnosed with PTSD and TBI, have walked a long and difficult path, without any support.  The military, nor our government, are able to handle the magnitude of this problem.  For those of us out in the civilian world that must be a strong support to our wounded warriors, we need to encourage one another and help to keep our families strong.  PTSD and TBI destroy relationships, families, and lives.

If you are struggling with these issues, then you have the experience needed to make the VET2VET FAMILIES program a success.  By sharing, you will help others move forward and you will help yourself at the same time.
