Though my husband is retired from active duty I feel that I need to learn about Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome/ and the Why was I Spared. He is almost 61 years old and seems to be going through some things that he says was before "my time" with him, so he will not talk to me about it. We have been married 28 years. I want to be active in his wellness. He is shutting me out. Not only in this aspect but also in other aspects as well. I need help. I do not want to push him deeper into this horrible depressive state. That is creating this unstable person that I do not know.

I completely agree with everything you said, Blake. Thank you for putting some words of truth out here for everyone to read. Most especially, thank you for your service. I'm sorry to hear you were injured and I sure hope you are able to access some quality care for your TBI. You certainly deserve the very best.

1.) I don't think it would "water-down" the award because of the impact that these injuries have had on Marines for years after the injury. I can tell you that I (and 2 others in my truck) had grade 2 concussions and were pretty much out of commission for the next 24 hours. I also took a small piece of shrapnel in my hand in that explosion (but left it unreported...did not feel as though it rated a purple heart). However, I have seen QUITE A FEW receive the PH with very small cuts or scratches. Now, I do feel that ANY injury rates the PH no matter the severity. It is a game of inches that could mean life or death and the circumstances alone warrant the recognition.

2.) I dealt with my TBI (was not diagnosed until a couple years later) for quite some time. It was misdiagnosed as general PTSD and never given the proper care. A TBI can really work a veteran over and can cause potentially life threatening physical ailments years after the actual injury was sustained. Invisible wounds are just as harmful as the visible ones because more often than not, they go untreated.

So...now that I am a little older and a little wiser...I absolutely agree with this potential change. The army already gives it out for all three grades...we may as well catch up...Marines deserve it for this injury as well. The damage may not be seen, but it has a LONG lasting affect. It should be approved and be made retro-active.

Hang in there. Help is coming! I hope you got to speak to the IG team. I don't like the idea of my adopted tows being trapped in WWBN-E.

Douche's mom? I'm one of the Tow's boys. Actually.. Dave played Journey in my ear everyday on patrol for half of the 06 deployment. That should tell you who I am. ;)

Tell him that I hope he's doing alright, I lost his number in a phone swap.

Things are just as shitty as ever over here at the WWBn-E but we will prevail.

I'm almost out. Almost done with that hole.

Justa Nothermom, thank you for your encouragement. I only spoke out in hopes that other parents and spouses would do the same. If they read your comment, they may be more compelled to do so. I can understand why it would be difficult for you to speak out. That's the biggest problem. We are all scared to speak up. I don't know if you were there when my Marine was there, but it's comforting to know that you might have been and you cared.

Marine Mom, thank you for coming forward. While I was an employee there, my heart ached each day. Every Marine there could have been one of my grown sons. It is difficule for me to freely speak openly for various reasons, but I want you to know how happy I am that you for made the decisions you have for your son. More parents and spouses should follow your example and advocate for their loved ones. Thank you again! I hope that your son is able to recover and adjust to his new life under the warmth of your love. God Bless.

Thank you so much for doing this important work. I am not a veteran, but I am a multiple TBI survivor. Anyone who is stepping up to assist those affected by this impactful injury are doing others -- and this country -- an amazing service.

I have added links to your blog and your main site at my own blog. I hope to send lots of traffic your way. We need as many clear voices as we can get.

Thank you again for your commitment and courage.

Best regards,

BB
